George and Carole Boyett
At the suggestion of a friend we took a booth in a small shop on Oklahoma
Avenue called Treasured Antiques. It soon became clear that we were
merchants at heart and one day the store owner, Linda Norton said to me,
"Why don't you just retire and buy this store?" So we did.
In 2010 we opened Treasures and Books in the downtown historic district
with a goal of creating an interesting space filled with unusual retro,
collectible and antique treasures and of course we indulged our passion
for reading by adding books, a great assemblage of books.
In 2013 we moved the store into the beautiful Farquarson Building
which is the site once occupied by the first Guthrie City Jail. We are
literally surrounded by the history of Oklahoma, and memories of
the Land Run of 1889 and the settlers who came, like us, to make
Guthrie their home.
This is a thriving community of people who value our history while
looking with optimism to the future. George and I and the vendors
we host are so very happy to be a part of Guthrie, Oklahoma.
George and I met and married in 2003,
each of us having lost a spouse. I was
working in the mortgage banking world
when George introduced me to his home
town of Guthrie. It was love at first sight
and we decided to make the First Capital
our home. The only problem we had was
what to do with all the "stuff" we'd
accumulated in our former lives.
Browse through our site to get a flavor of what we're all about!
We look forward to meeting you and hope you'll enjoy the store
and a little taste of Oklahoma history in the process!
